The Twelve Days of Lipstick - Day 4...

Morning all!

Really hope you're enjoying my 12 Days of Lipstick series so far?

Today, I've gone to the dark side & chosen a shade that's probably more suited to an autumn/winter look to be honest. But I just really fancied wearing a dark colour for a change as I normally wear either a nude or a bright shade.

So I chose 'Blackberry' by Bobbi Brown (£18). This is from my ltd. edition 1991 lipstick palette (an gift from my boyfriend a few birthdays ago) but it is available individually too.

Do you have the 1991 lipstick palette? What's your favourite Bobbi Brown shade?

The Twelve Days Of Lipstick - Day 3...

Hi guys,

Today's shade of choice is this brilliantly bright number called 620 Coral Queen by Rimmel (£6.29). It's from their Moisture Renew range which I think are pretty good & great value too.

Thought I could get away with something this bright as the rest of my face, and even my outfit, is quite minimal today. The picture doesn't show just how neon it actually is but it's a very pretty colour but not too orange as it has a pink undertone.

What's your favourite lipstick in the Rimmel range?

The Twelve Days of Lipstick - Day 2...

Morning Everyone!

The sun is out today so day two's lipstick is a gorgeous bright pink. It's another MAC (sorry, I do seem to have a thing for their lipsticks) called 'Lustering'. Perfect!

Let me know what your favourite pink lippie is!

The Twelve Days of Lipstick - Day 1...

Hello again lovely readers,

One thing you may have picked up from my previous post is that I absolutely adore make-up, lipstick in particular. I tend to collect make-up rather than just have the bare essentials and I'm a complete sucker for a limited edition collection.

'Fashion Not Rocket Science' will always be, first and foremost, a vintage blog. But I felt it was time to branch out and throw some vintage style make-up into the mix. What better place to start than with lipstick?

I have so many lipsticks and probably don't wear the majority of them as much as I should. So, to try and get the best from my collection (and maybe rediscover a few I've forgotten I have) I'm going to be doing a '12 Days of Lipstick' - wearing a different lipstick each day for the next 12 days. I will also be posting on Twitter and Instagram. It's definitely time to dig out those bright spring shades I've not even considered wearing during the cold, dark winter months!

So today was day 1 and I was in a nude mood (oooh, err!) so slapped on a bit of 'Hue' by MAC (£14 each - see pic below). It may not look like much but it's very glossy and pretty on and was perfect for today's look. I was sporting deep purple winged liner and didn't want anything too strong on the lips.

I'd love to know what your favourite nude lipstick is. Let me know in the comments below!

Thirty Random Facts About Me...

Hey Everyone!

I've got some great reviews and vintage beautifulness lined up to blog about very soon. But before all of that, I thought it would be fun do a post with a difference...

It's about time we all got to know each other better I reckon and as 'Fashion Not Rocket Science' celebrated its second (or is it third, I forget?) anniversary back in November (which was somewhat of a non event at the time) and it's not long before I turn twenty nine...again (if you get what I'm'a sayin', the clue's in the title!) I thought this would be a good opportunity to share Thirty Random Facts About Me. I'll try and make them as obscure as possible for maximum amusement. Here goes...

  1. A fairly bog standard one to start with - I have double jointed elbows. Actually, don't a lot of people?
  2. I'm a very emotionally intense person. I wear my heart of my sleeve and when I like something, I am OBSESSED with it.
  3. Which brings me on to my next fact, I am a massive, MASSIVE fan of Harry Potter. I'm a total Potter geek and I don't care.
  4. I'm convinced I was born in the wrong decade and have always felt very drawn to the 1960's for some reason. The music, the make-up, the fashion, it's just always appealed to me.
  5. As well as being self appointed president of the Harry Potter fan club, I am hugely in love with The Beatles. Those guys were and still are revolutionary in every way.
  6. I have an HND in Musical Theatre, a degree in Performing Arts, grade 5 Clarinet and grade 8 Singing.
  7. In 2005 I travelled East Coast Australia with friends. It was an unforgettable and incredible experience and I hope to go back someday.
  8. When I was about two, I got hold of a pair of scissors and started hacking away at my beautiful dark curly hair. It grew back straight.
  9. I have lived in four different counties in the UK.
  10. When I was little, I always wanted to play Leisl in The Sound Of Music. I still do.
  11. I love architecture. It fascinates me and I think it tells us a lot about how our ancestors lived.
  12. I'm becoming a bit of a history nerd in my old age. Ironically, I took absolutely no interest in it at school and remember once trying not to fall asleep in a history class.
  13. My favourite artist is Salvador Dali. I love a bit of the psychologically abnormal.
  14. If I had to live off one food for the rest of my life, it would be aubergine. Either that or pepperoni.
  15. I am easily scared. Don't ask me to watch a horror movie, it ain't happening!
  16. I suffer from vertigo.
  17. I am scared rigid of the dark. So much so that my ritual for turning off the house lights before bed can be quite time consuming.
  18. My boyfriend and I have been together seven years.
  19. I am a big collector of make-up, especially MAC lipsticks.
  20. I keep all my make-up in a massive tool box.
  21. I have size three feet.
  22. I can crochet fairly well and knit rather badly.
  23. My Dad used to do my art homework for me. He even did my R.E. coursework once. I got a B.
  24. I'm definitely more of a cat person and would love to have either a black tabby or a ginger british short hair.
  25. Having said that, one day I would also love to have a pug.
  26. Music is something that's extremely important to me. I would describe my taste as eclectic.
  27. I also studied film and media at college and love nothing more than watching the extra features on DVDs, especially those 'making of' documentaries.
  28. I am currently training to be a teaching assistant, but in a parallel fantasy universe, I would be either a film director, an actor, a make-up artist or a singer/bassist in a band.
  29. My brother is in a very successful band. I am very proud of him. And ever so slightly jealous.
  30. I was once an extra in a film shot in Newcastle and starring Kelly Brook. It was a bit of a flop but I was still so pleased when I first saw it myself on screen for all of about twelve seconds.
So that's it! Let me know in the comments below the links to all your random facts too - I love reading about you all!

The Last Four Months...

Hello lovely people,

After an unintentional and rather lengthy blog break, I thought it about time I checked in to update you all on what I've actually been doing! Blimey, has it really been that long since I last blogged? Yikes, time flies...

First thing's first, Happy New Year! I hope you all had wonderful Christmases and great starts to 2013 whatever you were up to.

If you are a regular reader or follow me on Twitter, you'll know that Mr. Fashion Rockets and I relocated to Brighton back in July. It's never an easy thing moving house as many of you will appreciate, let alone moving to a completely different area. Well, as you might imagine, I have found it a little tough. Not knowing anyone here and being in unfamiliar surroundings have been difficult things to overcome.

But leaving the doom and gloom to one side for a moment, relocating has also provided me with the opportunity to rethink my career. I was deeply unhappy working in high street retail and felt a change was desperately needed. I have since moved away form a future in retail management to re-train as a teaching assistant and am currently working hard on passing a relevant course through home study and so enjoying being a 'student' again! I'm now able to look to the future and am genuinely excited as to what it might bring. Needless to say, everything vintage is, and will always remain a huge part of my life and one of my many passions!

The hardcore followers among you can't have failed to notice that I've also taken up a new hobby since moving down south. What started out as just a bit of messing about with a pair of knitting needles and a ball of wool has turned into a knitting bag full of half finished projects, a large collection of knitting needles and crochet hooks in every size possible and a collection of wool that's threatening to take over the spare room! It is a rather addictive hobby, possibly because the project possibilities are endless and once you've started, it's hard not to want your project to be finished there and then! The best thing about learning to crochet though, is that I've been able to make thoughtful, pretty, practical and cost saving gifts for friends and family. It certainly kept me busy in the run up to Christmas! If you're interested in seeing what I've been making, I always usually post my finished projects on Twitter or Instagram so pop over, have a peek and let me know what you think as I'd love to hear your feedback. Similarly, post a comment below and let me know what you've been making and where you get your woolen-spiration! Cynics among you may scoff and think that crochet is for grannies but absolutely anyone can do it, it's loads of fun (trust me) and so vintage cool, you wouldn't believe!

I do hope it's not too long before I find the time to get back in front of the computer again. In the mean time, I'm off to bake some cakes and crochet some more. I'm not kidding!

Bag Lady...

Hello again guys,

As you may have seen from me tweets, I went shopping around North Laine in Brighton today and just couldn't wait to blog about what I bought! As if I didn't need another excuse, To Be Worn Again have a 50% off everything sale running until the end of September (yes, you read that correctly. Everything half price for a month! Incredible!) so I made visiting both their Brighton stores my top priority...

If you know me, you'll know I have a rather crazy obsession with handbags, but until today I didn't have a decent sized vintage shoulder bag. This is a lovely subtle mushroom colour so it'll go with pretty much any outfit. It's a great size to use for every day and the best thing is it was £15 reduced from £30! I do love a vintage bargain!

My second obsession after handbags? Headscarves! This cute little floral mauve one is lovely soft silk and is the perfect size. It's a great deep shade for autumn and goes well with the bag too. It was an absolute steal at £2 reduced from £4!

Oh, and I couldn't leave without showing you my new shoes! Not vintage, but cute and bargainous none the less - only £5 from Primark! I've been meaning to get some brogues for a long time now so I've finally found the pair for me. Great value, perfect with most of my wardrobe and just in time for autumn!
